Welding Supervisor

A very busy and long- established Fabrication company in Leeds are looking to support their production with the appointment of a Welding Supervisor. There is no requirement to actually weld but candidates must be fully conversant with all aspects of high-class welding using the most common methods. Particular experience with coded procedures and welder qualification is important as is the ability to manage production on a day to day basis. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will have a background as a Coded Welder or Weld Inspector.

CSWIP 3.1/ TIG/MIG/MMA/ Coded/Computer Literate/ Drawings/ Weld Procedures/Supervisor/Foreperson

Main Duties: (non-exhaustive)
Allocation of work to suitably qualified Welders on a day to day basis
Ensure weld plant daily checks have been done
Allocate wire for the day
Monitor and record the temperature of the welding stores
Verify all new consumables to required standards
Ensure welders are working to procedure they have regarding, distortion, pre-heat, tack welds etc
Ensure all jobs allocated have full WPS Maps
Ensure Welders have correct equipment i.e. TWI weld gauges, pea-shooters, calibrated contact thermometers
Undertake pre-weld inspection to ensure all equipment and materials comply with procedures
Investigate minor discontinuities with Welder
Report NCRs and non-compliance

Site welding:
Check weather conditions are suitable for site welding
Check pre-heat minimum temperature is being maintained in accordance with WPS
Ensure correct consumables
Check Fillet preps for size (visual)
Check root run is visually acceptable
Ensure gouging

Skills and Experience:
Able to read both dimensional and welding drawings
Background in Coded welding encompassing TIG, MIG and MMA and including the welding of exotic Alloys
Working towards CSWIP 3.1 or willing to undertake training
Experience of managing teams of up to 20
Strong organisational skills
IT literate , able to use common MS Office programmes (Word, Excell, Outlook)
Familiarity with welder qualification
Detail oriented.
